An ellipsoid carnelian gemstone with intaglio scene of a huntsman standing over a stag with legs folded beneath the body, head raised and antlers displayed; set in a later silver finger ring. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L., Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, items 271, 275, for type.11.10 grams, 27.09mm overall, 20.02mm internal diameter (approximate size British I, USA 4 1/4, Europe 7.44, Japan 7) (1"). Property of a London gentleman; formerly acquired before 1970; accompanied by a scholarly note TL5320 by Dr Ronald Bonewitz; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no. 10475-168454.
