A double-weave fabric in red, green, black and yellow colours, with a symmetrical design within a border together with a double-weave fabric in two shades of brown, with an ovoid central and a decorated border. 29 grams total, 13.5 x 14 - 17 x 15.5cm (5 1/4 x 5 1/2 - 6 3/4 x 6"). Property of a Lincolnshire, UK, gentleman; from the collection of the Late Robert Henry Hering. For centuries, the native weavers of Egypt were famous for the richness of their work. Using intricate patterns and vivid colours, Coptic weavers created masterpieces of textile art.
