2nd-4th century AD. A bronze leaping dolphin, holding globe(?) in mouth; integral loop below. 112 grams, 80mm (3"). From a London gentleman, formerly in a Swiss collection 1990s. Dolphins attracted admiration and affection in the ancient world, and there are many apocryphal tales of these animals rescuing drowning men and guiding ships.
