A FINE GEORGE II ROCOCO SILVER CAKE BASKET, George Methuen, London 1744, shaped oval, the swing handle with mermaid-form supports and flat-chased arch-top, the pierced basket with scroll and foliate chasing to the well, the broad rim cast with bold C-scrolls and foliage, raised on substantial ball and claw feet capped at the knee with fruiting vine, engraved with a crest. 25cm high to top of handle, 38cm by 31cm, 70.8 troy ounces The absence of a Condition Report does not imply that a lot is without imperfections. Please note carefully the exclusion of liability for the condition of lots contained in the Conditions of Sale. Marks to underside are clear and well spaced. Maker's mark and lion passant to handle. Handle is tiff in the hinges and not floppy. Perhaps a few very minor repairs to the pierced patterns, if so these have been carried out in antiquity. Surface wear but generally in very good condition commensurate with age.
