An Italian painted terracotta portrait bust of a gentleman wearing a cap, possibly 16th century, portrayed gazing forward and with serene features, presented on an associated wooden stand, 37cm high (including stand) A comparable bust of a nobleman wearing a cap, showing similar handling of the sitter's facial features, was sold at Sotheby's New York, 26 January 2012, lot 317 ($5,625). The distinctive cap is of the same type and shape as the one worn in Albrecht Durer's circa 1508 drawing of an Apostle from the Heller Altarpiece.
