Polish Artist 19th Century, A.SIEMI….KI.ROMA, Charons boat or Dantes Inferno, Lit: Charon, an irascible old man with white hair and coal-black eyes, appears in his boat. He tells Dante to get away from the dead, as he won’t be carried across by him with those souls, but have to arrange another crossing. Virgil intercedes to ensure that they too will be ferried by Charon across the marshy River Acheron to Hell itself. From Divine comedy by Dante Alligheri (1265-1321), monumental painting, oil on canvas, with allegory of the described thematic; old restorations, the signature A.SIEMI….KI.ROMA ly disappeared and remains only in parts, described in Polish language; on the reverse late 19th Century.
