痕都斯坦玉器崇尚纯色，追求轻薄，形制新颖，装饰华美，与传统琢玉之理念大有不同，别开生面，被喻为“仙工”，自传入清宫之后，深受乾隆皇帝喜爱，令内务府和苏州设立专门仿制痕都斯坦玉器的作坊，成“西番作”。“西番作”玉器继承了痕都斯坦玉造型别致、花纹流畅、胎体通透的优点，并结合中国工艺的传统方法，创造出带有痕都斯坦风格的宫廷玉器。乾隆八百多首赏玉诗中，关于痕都斯坦风格玉器的多达六十五首，足见他对痕玉的情有独锺，诗中曾盛赞道：“西昆率产玉，良将出痕都”；“薄过刻片楮，轻喻举鸿毛”；“玉既莹净，器薄如纸，良材巧琢，非中土玉工所能仿佛也。”拍品配红木底座。
