The top portion of a hand-coloured woodcut illustration from page CLXXXVII recto of the Nuremberg Chronicles by Hartmann Schedel, first published 1493. This section of a leaf ormanuscript page illustrates the Genealogy of Saint Kunigunde (Cunigunde of Luxembourg), the queen of Henry II, Holy Roman Emperor (r: 1014-1024). Each figure with Latin title. From left to right: 1. Kunigunde (S. Kunegundis Imperatrix); 2. Theodoric (Episcopus Metensis), archbishop of Metz; 3. Adelbert (Adelbertus Canonus Metensis); and 4. Henry, Rhenish Count Palatine and Duke of Bavaria (Heinricus Palatinus Rheni Dux Bavarie). Matted, set within a red painted wood frame. Possibly anexample of an incunabula leaf. Woodcut: 22.9 x 6.9 cm (8 5/8 x 2 3/4 in.) Frame: 34.1 x 17 cm (13 1/2 x 6 3/4 in.) Condition Report A nice example. Very mild foxing, somelight print from verso can be seen. Very minor wear to the paint at the corners of the frame. Condition report available upon request.
