20th century, probably Sepik River region, carved wood kneeling figure holding an alligator vertically with head faced downward, large perched bird sits atop his head, face with shell eyes, pronounced nose and brow ridge, and swirled painted decoration, overall paint decorated with gray and white stripes on ochre ground, fiber twines extending from nose, ears, neck and waist with two bone rings attached, 36-1/2 in. - Provenance: Mathias Komor, New York, purchased 1960s; Private North Carolina Collection
