A mid Victorian shell cameo brooch, circa 1870, the oval shell panel carved with Mars, Venus and Cupid at Vulcans forge, in a gilt metal setting, 6.7cm wide; together with a shell cameo brooch, carved with a nude Mercury, with winged head and heel, carrying his caduceus, in a rolled gold coloured ropetwist setting, 5.4cm long Condition Report: The first cameo has a faint scratched signature to the reverse, no noticeable hairline cracks when held to the light, the high relief points have rubbing, the base metal setting is rubbed and the gilding has come off at points. The Mercury cameo has hairline cracks visible to the front of the cameo particularly to the top, they do rub from the front of the cameo to the back. the setting is testing as low carat gold with a basemetal filling Condition Report Disclaimer
