After Mathurin Moreau (French, 1822-1912), a white painted cast iron figural fountain, attributed to the Val d'Osne foundry, late 19th/early 20th century, modelled as a putto holding a bunch of rushes, 105cm high, 35cm diameter Bidders from the UK and outside of the European Union should be aware that additional import charges may apply Mathurin Moreau was a member of the renowned Moreau family of sculptors, whose Rococo-influenced mythological and genre figures were highly popular in late 19th century France. He was a regular exhibitor at the Paris salon, and won a medal of honour for his submission in 1867. The present model of a child clutching rushes appears in a circa 1900 catalogue of the cast iron foundry at Val d'Osne (pl. 581, no. 173), which not only suggests that the present lot was possibly cast by this successful and prolific foundry, but which also indicates the commercial success of Moreau's works. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, This has been recently painted white and Dreweatts cannot guarantee the condition below the paint however there are no obvious signs of corrosion beneath the painted layer Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
