A French black painted cast iron figural standard lamp, last quarter 19th century, cast by and inscribed for the A. DURENNE foundry, SOMMEVOIRE, the coloured glass ovoid shade above a torchere held aloft by a diaphanously draped maiden, the integrally cast circular socle with maker's name, 230cm high, on a circular white marble base with waisted sides, 30cm high, 260cm high overall, 65cm diameter Bidders from the UK and outside of the European Union should be aware that additional import charges may apply Antoine Durenne (1822-1895) was a bronze and cast iron manufacturer with a foundry at Sommevoire, near Val d'Osne, who is mainly known for his attractive casts of small-scale animal groups and large scale figures such as the present lot. Similar examples appear in Durenne's 1889's trade catalogue, illustrated in John Davis, Antique Garden Ornament, 1991, p. 357
