AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY ENGRAVING OF THE CRAVEN HEIFER 1812 An excellent engraving of the Craven Heifer, bred and fed by the Rev. William Carr of Bolton Abbey, Nr. Skipton. The engraving dedicated to William Spencer, The Duke of Devonshire. The inscription states....'this wonderful animal was 4 years old in 1811 and is still in a growing and improving state...'Length from nose to the rump....11 feet 2 inches. Height at the shoulder 5 feet 2 inches. Breadth over the back 3 feet 3 inches.' Engraved by J. Whessell of Oxford in 1812 from the painting by Fryer. 51cm high 61cm wide - mounted in a glazed bird's eye maple moulded frame with gilt slip
