By Moriguchi of Kyoto, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Each vase worked throughout in flat gold and silver overlay with extensive use of kebori for the details, lavishly decorated with complementary scenes (two on each vase) depicting a bird-and-flower and buildings set the shores of a lake enclosed with a gold outlined circular floriform panel bordered with kirimon (paulownia crests) interwoven among karakusa ('Chinese grasses'), all on a silver ground of fragmented rinzu (textile-weave) patterns, the shoulder with fruiting vine enclosed within a swirling brocade, the high domed covers scattered with three kikumon (chrysanthemum crests) among fragmented rinzu; both vases with a seal Kyoto Moriguchi.
