Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century Both decorated in iron-red, blue, green, black and gilt enamels with a pair of tanchozuru (red-crested cranes) beneath stylised clouds and a branch of overhanging pine, the underside painted in underglaze blue with stylised branches of plum; inscribed on the base with an apocryphal Chinese reign mark Dai Ming Seika nen sei (Chinese: Da Ming Chenghua nian zhi).
