A Chinese export porcelain large mug, 18th century, painted in famille rose enamels and heightened with gilt with the arms of Newton with Alleyne in pretence, with two dishes from the same service and another similar dish, decorated with sprays of peaches and flowering peonies, 15cm height of mug, 22cm diameter of plates (4) c.f. Two similar dishes were offered at Sotheby's New York, 4th April 2007, lot 233. Note: The service was made in 1745 for John Newton of King's Bromley and his wife Elizabeth Alleyne. This member of the Newton family, for which two other services were made about this time, married a granddaughter of Reynold Alleyne, Chief Judge of Bridge Court, Barbados, a wealthy sugar family. The Alleyne family had settled in Barbados in the early 17th century. 品相報告 Condition Report: The mug has restoration to the handle and rim, of which there is an associated hairline. OF the pair of dishes, one has a hairline and possible small area of restoration, the other is perfect. The third dish is also in good condition, just a couple of small nibbles to the rim. Examined under UV. Please contact the department for additional condition images.
