A Persian gold-inlaid tabar (battle axe), 18th century The sturdy axe blade made of wootz-Damascus, the central section and the rear hammer head lightly chased. The head, upper and lower surfaces with fine floral gold inlays, calligraphic cartouches on the hammer face and the sides. The inlays slightly rubbed in places. The round wooden stock with a three-part cover of floral, hammered sheet bronze. A tiny defect on the left, underneath the axe head. Length 61 cm.Condition: II -
