A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE 'GOATS' DISH. Qing Dynasty, 18th Century, circa 1760-1840. The interior of the dish delicately painted to the edges with two goats on the grassy bank of a river, beneath sprays of oversized peonies, and looking out to buildings and trees on the opposite shore, 22.5cm diameter. 約一七六零至一八四零 粉彩繪羊紋碟 An identical dish to this was famously in the collection of Alexander Hamilton (1755 – 1804), one of the founding fathers of the USA, and immortalised in the 2015 Broadway musical Hamilton. The Hamilton dish is illustrated in Jean McClure Mudge, Chinese Export Porcelain in North America, 1986, cat no 246, p 158, and has been loaned to the Museum of the City of New York by the estate of John Church Hamilton.
