A GEORGE II GILTWOOD AND GESSO WALL MIRROR IN THE MANNER OF JAMES MOORE OR JOHN GUMLEY, CIRCA 1735 109cm high, 68cm wide For related examples of mirror, Graham Child, World Mirrors: 1650-1900, Sotheby's Publications, 1990, pages 84 & 85, figures 70, 71 & 74. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old chips and splits - see images. Gilding appears to have been sympathetically re-freshed at some point. Surface with the expected subbing and some losses. Losses to the scroll elements at the centre of the lower edge of the mirror. An neatly executed old glue repair has been made to re secured to the tip of this section and evidence of old bracing is visible to the back. Plate is a later replacement. Backboard is a later replacement. the central foliate plume to the cresting has been detached an re-applied. Small amounts of glue residue are visible to the front and screws have been used to the back to secure. Vacant screw holes to the back from previous fixtures.
