A PAIR OF EN GRISAILLE PAINTED PANELS, IN THE CLASSICAL MANNER CIRCA 1800-1820, IN THE MANNER OF ABRAHAM ALEXANDRE TEERLINK (DORDRECHT 1776 - 1857) Depicting a 'Maiden at her toilette with attendant servants' and 'Figures offering to a herm figure of a God' Gouaches or oil on card, laid on coarse linen canvas 50cm x 113cm, the frames overall 70cm x 128cm and 70cm x 133xm A Dutch draughtsman and landscape painter, Abraham Teerlink received a stipend from King Louis Napoleon enabling him to travel to study paintings in the Louvre, Paris, before settling permanently in Rome. For a similar work, see Sotheby's, London, Collections, 2nd May 2017, Lot 253. Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions consistent with age. Some minor puckering, visible joins and tears to the paper; indentation to one area of paper/canvas. Some surface spots and marks. Some paint, probably from later painting the frame, on the work to some edges. Evidence of worm, including at least one hole to front of image. Patches to verso coarse linen, some stains. The frames later - one scumbled, the other painted grey. That said these comments on condition are only apparent on close up inspection.
