A WILLIAM IV OAK SIDE CABINET CIRCA 1835, ATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS The interior fitted with four graduated, solid oak lined drawers to one side, each drawer with partitions to the interior and with recessed gilt brass handles, the other side with two adjustable shelves 96cm high, 122cm wide, 45cm deep Due to its distinctive design and materials, this cabinet is very possibly the example commissioned by Ferguson & Co. from Gillows for John Sheepshank. The original drawings and costings for the cabinet made for Sheepshank survive in the Westminster Archives and record the Gillow cabinet maker as B. Sharples. Bartholemew Sharples is listed as working for Gillows from 1835- 850 (See Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, Antique Collectors Club, 2008, Vol II, p279). A printed copy of the photographs of the designs and costings are available with this lot.
