A FRENCH EGYPTIAN REVIVAL POLYCHROME DECORATED CAST IRON FIGURE 'PORTEUR D'EAU NUBIEN' IN THE MANNER OF ANTOINE DURENNE, LATE 19TH CENTURY Apparently unmarked 158cm high The Antoine Durenne cast iron and bronze foundry was active in Paris from 1847 to 1930 produced works including animal and figural large scale sculptures, including ironworks for parks and gardens. See Christie's New York, 18 April 2013, lot 215 for a stamped Antoine Durenne model of a Porteur D'Eau Nubien. Condition Report: Patina variegated colour Lightened from wear to protruding areas including hands and elbow Minor scuffing, scratches and wear overall consistent with age. Some casting seams visible Empty screw holes to top of ewer. Panel unscrews to back of figure. Some later paintwork, scratches and some crackelure to paintwork.
