A George II silver lobed ogee baluster cream jug by Francis Crump, London 1742, with a leaf capped double scroll handle, engraved with C-scroll decoration, on a conforming shaped circular pedestal foot, 11cm (4 1/4in) high, 176g (5.65 oz) There is no recorded grant of these arms, but it is believed to be related to the COCK family. Condition Report: Marks are generally clear Stands well Decoration is good Light scratches and wear commensurate with age and use The blazon: azure, a chevron or, in chief two roses A bookplate has been found of these arms, showing the arms with a crest. The source gives that the arms are being used by an Arthur COCK, a lawyer of the Middle Temple. The registers of the Middle Temple tell us that he was admitted there in 1868 and his father was a tanner of Shrewsbury. Further we find that the family are earlier of Ironbridge, Madeley, Dawley and Wellington Shropshire. The earliest record of the family that has been located is for 1759, when Roger COCK was born, probably in Wellington. Condition Report Disclaimer
