George Washington Maher was a Chicago based architect known for his significant contributions to the Prairie School and Arts & Crafts design movements. Like his contemporaries, Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright, Maher was known to use motifs that were based on geometric patterning mixed with designs from nature. Maher would creatively tie the design elements throughout a home together by his repeated use of native plant patterns that were incorporated in his custom windows, tiles and woodwork as well as on bespoke pieces of lighting and furniture.
