A small copper tsuba with enamel inlay By Tou, Nara School, 19th century Of rounded rectangular form, the ishime ground inlaid with fireflies escaping from a cage in gold-wired cloisonné-enamel beside a fan of shibuichi inlaid with the character ju in shakudo; signed Tou. 6cm (2 3/8in). Footnotes: リザーブ設定無し 鍔 蛍に団扇 銘「東雨」 19世紀 The signature Tou was first used by Tsuchiya Yasuchika (1670-1744), founder of the Nara School, but this example dates from the 19th century.
