BERNARD CASPAR HARDY (1726-1819): PAIR OF RELIEF SCULPTURES. A pair of late 18th or early 19th century wax studies of a gentleman in a green jacket selling fruit, and a lady carrying cauliflowers and other vegetables in her apron. Both framed and glazed, 21 x 17cm. Hardy worked in Cologne at the turn of the century, he is considered one of the finest exponents of his craft favouring the then fashionable romantic subjects popular with painters. Two comparable works are in the collection of the Victoria and Albert museum.
