MARILYN MONROE INTEREST: A vintage travel trunk, 20th century, once belonging to Marilyn Monroe, initialled 'M.M.' to the lid, applied labels for 'Hotel Du Lac, Interlaken', 'Carlton Hotel Tivoli, Lucerne', and other international hotels including ones in London and Paris, with various applied and partially removed luggage labels, the ribbed trunk of typical form with fabric lined interior and removable top tray, 88cm x 53cm x 51cm Provenance: The trunk was given to British actor Richard Wattis by Marilyn when they worked together on the Prince And The Showgirl (released 1957). The trunk was too big for Wattis's house, so he gave it to fellow thespian Derrick Hammond-Stroud. He kept it in his loft until his friends Jeffrey and Dorothy Benton moved house in 1968. Dorothy was a big Marilyn fan and needed something to keep clothes in, so Hammond-Stroud gave her the trunk. It is now being sold by the Benton family in aid of the Mario Lanza Education Foundation.
