元代瓷器之釉色是南宋青、白两大瓷系的延续，景德镇釉色尚青白，保持唐代“饶玉”的美誉。元朝“国俗尚白，以白为吉”的审美心理，烧制白釉的需求十分强烈，元代景德镇在青白瓷生产的基础上，创烧了卵白釉，由于这种卵白瓷中发现有“枢府”字样，因此人们称为“枢府”器。明初曹昭所著《格古要论》古瓷器条中有记载“元朝烧小足印花者，内有枢府字高”，可知此类品种自古就极为珍贵，备受重视。
