Ludwig Bock (1886-1971), studied at the Academy of Art from 1906, including as a master student of Heinrich von Zügel. In 1908 he participated for the first time in an exhibition of the Secession and became its member in 1917. A trip to Paris in 1913, where he became acquainted with French modernism and works by Henri Matisse and Paul Cézanne, had a formative influence. From 1918 Bock regularly organized exhibitions, especially at the Glaspalast. In 1929 he received the Rome Prize and the Villa Massimo scholarship associated with it.
