A CARVED LIMESTONE FRAGMENT POSSIBLY FRENCH 14TH CENTURY On a modern wood stand 35cm high, 48cm high overall Provenance: The Simon Neal Collection The handling and carving of the present limestone fragment suggest it was made in France during the 14th century. At one time it may have formed part of a capital above a column, or frieze from a church, as winged figures are visible, who may represent robed angels in paradise.
