Lang Shining(Giuseppe Castiglione, 1688-1766), a Catholic Jesuit monk and painter, from Milan, Italy. Came to China in 1715 (the 54th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty), and then entered the imperial palace as a court painter. After the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong dynasties, he has been painting in China for more than 50 years and participated in the design of the Western House in Yuanmingyuan. One of the top ten painters. Lang Shining was good at painting horses, portraits, flowers and animals. His style emphasized the integration of Western painting techniques with traditional Chinese brush and ink. He was loved by the emperor and greatly influenced the Qing court paintings and aesthetic taste after Kangxi.
