A Sancai Glazed Pottery Figure of an Earth Spirit, Zhenmushou TANG DYNASTY (618-907) 唐 三彩鎮墓獸 shown reclined in a seated position on hind legs above a pierced base, the guardian's lionine body supported by straight legs with hoofed feet. The horned head flanked with wide-spreading ears, with flamelike projections issuing from the chest. The face with painted details and body glazed in vertical channels of the characteristic three colors. Height 32 in., 81.2 cm.
