Carsten Niebuhr, Travels to Arabia and other surrounding countries, 2 volume book series with many engravings and topographical maps, Amsterdam 1776. The Danish expedition to Arabia Felix was a scientific expedition to Egypt, Arabia and Syria, organized by order of King Frederik V of Denmark. Its main purpose was research to shed new light on the Old Testament; in addition, research into the natural history, geography and topography of the areas to be visited. There were six expedition members of whom only Carsten Niebuhr survived the journey. After many wanderings in the Near East, he returned to Copenhagen and published important books as a result of his trip (source Wikipedia).
