A beautiful Han granary from China, c. 206 BC - 220 AD. This excellent example is 10" high, with a roof diameter of 7-3/4" and stands on a trio of zoomorphic legs. It is covered with a lovely glossy green glaze that has oxidized into various shades of yellow-green in areas. The roof is designed to resemble tiles and horizontal incised bands divide the body into three sections. Intact, with good mineral encrustation. Granaries as these were funeral gifts, buried with the deceased as a symbol of wealth and to provide food in the afterlife. Purchased in 1992. (C35)
