A QUEEN ANNE POSTED THIRTY-HOUR LONGCASE CLOCK MOVEMENT WITH TEN-INCH DIAL Humphry Marsh, Highworth, circa 1710 The countwheel bell-striking movement with Huygens's endless winding, anchor escapement for regulation by seconds pendulum and rectangular section corner posts, the 10 inch square brass dial with matted centre within applied Roman numeral chapter ring with stylised sword hilt half hour markers and signed Humphry, Marsh, Highworth, fecit No. 209 to lower margin, with scroll-pierced steel hand and twin cherub-and-crown cast spandrels to angles (no pendulum or weight). 29cm (11.5ins) high, 15cm (6ins) deep overall. Humphrey Marsh is recorded in Loomes, Brian Clockmakers of Britain 1286-1700 as born in Highworth, Gloucestershire in 1663 and was working as a clockmaker by 1694 having being previously apprenticed through the Bowyers' Company to Thomas Bedford in 1684. Humphrey Marsh also traded as an ironmonger and his wheel-cutting engine survives; he died in 1718 following a serious fall. Loomes notes that many of his clocks were numbered and provides a small sample of numbers which includes 209 at the end of the list.
