A REGENCY EBONISED QUARTER STRIKING BRACKET CLOCK Unsigned, circa 1810 The five pillar twin fusee movement with anchor escapement regulated by lenticular bob pendulum and two-in-one ting-tang quarter strike on two bells mounted to the upper margin of the geometric border engraved shouldered backplate fitted with pendulum hold fast to centre, the circular white painted convex dial with vertical Arabic numerals and steel spade hands, the break-arch case with hinged brass carrying handle to the moulded single pad surmount over cavetto cornice and full-height front door fitted with convex glazed circular brass bezel over concave-topped brass fish scale sound fret to lower margin, the sides with further rectangular fish scale frets and the rear with plain panel door within the frame of the case, on cavetto moulded skirt base with brass ogee bracket feet. 39.5cm (15.25ins) high with handle down, 31cm (12.25ins) wide, 19.5cm (7.75ins) deep. Condition Report: Movement appears complete and fundamentally all-original with no obvious evidence of alteration or significant replacements. The mechanism is working (will run and strike correctly) however is somewhat dirty/neglected hence a clean/service is required before putting into service. The dial has overall flaking/losses and wear most noticeably to the lower edge, the hands are probably replacements with the minute being a little kinked (has been bent and straightened). The top of the case (including the top mouldings) has been rebuilt with the mouldings replaced with a simpler single profile than the originals which would have most likely been of double profile and taller. This has required the upper margin of the arch of the front door to be extended slightly to allow for the shallower top mouldings. The top mouldings are also omitted from the rear of the case (originally they would have continued around all sides of the case). The back door is a replacement - the original was probably glazed. The rest of the case is otherwise in sound original unrestored condition with faults limited to age related bumps, scuffs and small repairs. There are no locks present - both the front and rear doors are now held by hook clasps. Clock has original pendulum but no winder or case key. Condition Report Disclaimer
