A LARGE EXPORT SILVER PRESENTATION CUP Attributed to Quan of Canton, late Qing Dynasty, circa 1870 Finely decorated in repoussé with warriors readying for battle in a private walled residence, all around a blank oval shield, the stem shaped as a lotus flower surrounded by applied, fierce, scaly dragons, above a domed repoussé base decorated with a band of acanthus leaves. 29.3cm high (11 1/2in) high 注脚 The internal edge of the foot engraved 'MALLET, BATH, ORIENTAL JEWELLERS & C. FINE SILVER'. Silversmith Quan produced fine wares for retail by Wang Hing & Co, circa 1865-70 (then, of Canton and only later of Canton & Hong Kong). Quan is known to have worked for several Canton retailers at this time. A similar goblet to the current lot was sold by Skinner in Boston in 2010.
