A George V ‘Arts and Crafts’ sterling silver ecclesiastical viaticum, London 1933 by Omar Ramsden (1873-1939) Of cylindrical form upon a spreading circular foot with a reeded rim. The domed pull off lid with embossed fruiting vine surmounted by a chased cross. The sides with loops with octagonal rings attached. The lower section with bayonet fitting, with an incised wavy band near rim, the internal lid section fitted with cork. Gilt interiors. Signed underneath OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT. Fully and part-marked. Height – 11.5 cm / 4.35 inches Weight – 130 grams / 4.18 ozt Provenance: Harry Taunton Tovey (1901-69) then to his brother John Gordon Tovey (1894-1977), thence by descent The Reverend Harry Taunton Tovey was granted a temporary commission as Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class (Captain equivalent) on 12 November 1930 until 11th November 1933, made permanent 12 November 1933. Recorded as a Chaplin he departed for Jamaica on the 25th May 1935, regularly travelling between Kingston and Liverpool, at the time of death resided in Salisbury, England.
