A George III sterling silver teapot, London 1799/1800 by Peter, Ann, and William Bateman (reg. Jan 1800) Of oval navette form with an embossed stylised leaf base, bright cut engraved bands of scrolls below a reeded edge. The domed hinged lid surmounted by a detachable ovoid wrythen finial. The curved spout opposite a silver loop handle with turned ivory simulators. Marked underneath and part-marked to handle and lid, the finial unmarked. Additionally, marked underneath with a later Belgium import mark (used 1831-1868) a date letter E in gothic script within a circular punch. Length – 29.6 cm / 11.5 inches Weight – 633 grams / 20.35 ozt
