A George III sterling silver teapot on stand, London 1795 by Peter and Ann Bateman, overstruck by George Gray Of elliptical octagonal form, the octagonal panelled straight spout opposite a C scroll fruit wood handle pinned to octagonal panelled sockets. The hinged conical panelled lid surmounted by a detachable ivory finial with gadrooned silver mount. The body with a bright cut engraved decorative band of anthemia between stylised urns of flowers. Each side with a shield shape cartouche within a foliate wreath, one with contemporaneous engraved initials G in flourished cursive script. The base section with a band of scrolling foliate forms. The elongated octagonal stand with a cavetto edge and a reeded rim, raised upon four fluted splay feet. The same engraved cartouche to centre with initial and edged with the same decorative border. Fully marked underneath teapot and to stand, with lion passant and makers mark to lid. (2) Teapot length – 28.5 cm / 11.25 inches Weight – 681 grams / 21.89 ozt
