A graduated set of three George II Scottish sterling silver casters, Edinburgh 1754 by by James Gilliland (1721-91, reg. 1748) Comprising a taller sugar caster and two smaller casters, each of baluster form upon a spreading circular foot. Each with pull off domed lids surmounted by bell form knop finials, with panels of pierced decoration of foliate scrolls alternating with drill pierced panels heightened with lattice engraving. Each engraved with a crest of a demi-lion rampant, regally crowned, holding in its dexter paw a sword wavy of the last, all with the motto above Pro Rege in Tyrannos. Each fully marked underneath for assay Hugh Gordon, the lid unmarked.
