A FINE LATE 18TH CENTURY FRENCH MOTHER OF PEARL AND MIXED GOLD FAN with pierced engraved decoration with a classical figural scene to the centre, Provenance: with a copy of the original bill of sale between Antonio Del Conde and John Lassman, New York, 1919. Also a copy of a handwritten letter dated 1913 purporting the fan to have belonged to Empress Charlotte. Empress Charlotte (1840-1927) was the only daughter of Leopold I, King of Belgium (1790-1865). Charlotte married Archduke Maximilian of Austria and after Napoleon III and the French took over Mexico he was crowned and served as King, The Emperor of Mexico. (49.5cm across when open 27cm high )
