铭文：琴兮砚兮，以写我心。但得琴趣，何劳弦音。松风一榻，花语满庭。挥毫濡墨，和秋虫吟。
款识：“允明”“枝山” 说明：砚以坑仔岩为材，细腻温润，做包袱裹琴状，雕工精细，线条优美。砚背刻铭文，落“枝山”款。
祝允明，字希哲，号枝山，长洲（今江苏苏州）人。他家学渊源，能诗文，工书法，特别是其狂草颇受世人赞誉，流传有“唐伯虎的画，祝枝山的字”之说。与唐寅、文征明、徐祯卿齐名，明历称其为“吴中四才子”之一。
