We are in front of a completely narrative work, starring St. Louis of France represented in the manner of Louis XIV. Formally, the anatomical and features modeling stands out, which is expressed through an excellent use of light contrasts. The features of the executioners are dehumanized, and their ugliness contrasts with the Saint's nobility. The definition of the figures in the foreground contrasts with the deliberately blurred forms in the background.
