Andalusian school of the XVII century."Diana and Endimión".Oil on canvas. Relined.Presents repainting and restorations.Measurements: 106 x 134 cm; 121 x 148 cm (frame). We are in front of a mythological work according to the naturalistic taste of the baroque, something that, together with the warm chromatism, well toned, the veristic treatment of characters and animals and the tenebrist and scenographic illumination, allows us to place this work in the Andalusian school of the XVII century. We see in it a beautiful woman dressed in the classical manner, which we can identify with the goddess Diana. It is the moment in which she descends to Earth and contemplates the shepherd Endimion, here represented with weapons and warrior's armor, and falls in love with her beauty. Throughout the History of Art, it has been usual to represent Endymion as a shepherd who sleeps peacefully, while being watched by Diana the Huntress. On this occasion, however, Endymion is depicted awake, in a playful attitude with one of Diana's hunting dogs.
