Thank you, I am a good deal better: but unable to do much . . .'. Sir John Masefield, (1878-1967), English poet and writer, Poet Laureate from 1930-1967; Autograph Letter (part), signed, to Sir Osbert Sitwell from Clifford Maxwell, (Director of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton), (only the second part of the letter present). 2pp., 26 lines, written to both sides of a single leaf in brown ink, the Royal Pavilion, Brighton printed address, . . . 'what a wonderful reading of 'Gold Coast Customs' your sister gave the other evening! . . . Truly she is the greatest living poet, the greatest woman poet ever . . '. As director of the Royal Pavilion in the years after the Second World War, Dr Musgrave had the unenviable job of rescuing the palace from wartime disrepair. He persuaded Brighton Council, which owned the Pavilion, to restore the Pavilion to its original splendour; Typescript Letter, signed, to Sir Osbert Sitwell, Renishaw Hall, from 'Rothermere', June 8, 1949. 1pp., 19 lines, typed to one side of a single leaf, The Daily Mail London, EC4, printed address, Rothermere apologises to Sir Osbert for an article printed in the 'Continental Daily Mail', which had escaped his notice, . .
