A GEORGE III SILVER TWIN HANDLED SUGAR VASE BY JOHN WAKELIN & WILLIAM TAYLORLONDON 1790With an acorn finial to the plain conical cover, moulded high loop handles, the body with a lower stiff leaf band, on a plain conical foot, engraved with a coronet, coat-of-arms and crest, 21.5cm (8 1/2in) high, 444g (14.3 oz)The coronet, coat-of-arms and crest for STANHOPE, earls of Chesterfield. The earl at this time was Philip Stanhope, 5th Earl of Chesterfield KG, PC, FRS, FSA (1755-1815) and was a politician and diplomat. He was British Ambassador to Spain between 1784 and 1787, Master of the Mint between 1789 and 1790, Joint Postmaster General between 1790 and 1798 and Master of the Horse between 1798 and 1804. The wife's side of the shield represents Anne, daughter of Reverend Robert Thistlewayte, who died in 1798.
