A VICTORIAN SILVER MOUNTED CLARET JUG BY WILLIAM & GEORGE SISSONSSHEFFIELD 1873With a pierced circular thumb piece to the domed cover, beaded borders, a scroll handle, chased with strapwork and foliate decoration and engraved with a crest within an oval reserve, the glass etched with conforming decoration, on a beaded moulded spreading base, 28cm (11in) highThe crest for JACKSONThis is the very rare and probably assumed crest of the JACKSON family of Ballybay, co. Monaghan, Ireland. It is expected the owner of the crest and item to be a descendant of John JACKSON (1700-1779) of Ballyreagan, co. Down, whose son the Revd. James JACKSON (1720-1792) was at sometime priest at Ballybay. It is likely that the Revd. James JACKSON's daughter married into the JACKSON family of Ballybay, uniting the families under the name JACKSON.
