Italian school of the 19th century. "Dante going to Beatrice's house", 1873. Oil on striped board. Signed "E. Prati" and dated in the lower right corner. Frame of the nineteenth century. Cracked. Restored. Measurements: 20 x 31 cm; 39,5 x 51,5 cm (frame). The artist of the present work shows us Dante Alighieri going to Beatrice Portinari's house. Also called Bice, Beatrice was the woman Dante Alighieri loved and the muse who inspired him. She was idealized by Dante in his New Life and especially in the Divine Comedy, making her a symbol of faith and a heavenly guide and protector. The work we are dealing with here stands out for its marked detail, attentive both to the faces of the characters and to the clothes they wear. Dimensions 20 x 31 cm; 39,5 x 51,5 cm (frame).
