Ptolemaic-Roman Period, 332 BC-323 AD. A cartonnage panel from the underfeet of a cartonnage mummy case, roughly rectangular in plan, painted with the stylised outline of two shoes, a lotus flower between, vibrant polychrome painted geometric detailing to the soles and flower, one remaining edge of geometric border composed of square segments, set against a dark red background; the reverse professionally strengthened and backed; held in a modern frame. Cf. The Metropolitan Museum, accession number O.C.348, for similar. 725 grams, 27 x 22.5cm (10 1/2 x 8 3/4"). From early 20th century collection, Home Counties, UK, c.1930-1940.
